gaah.  somehow i must have removed the notificatin area from the panel.
put it back in and there's tomboy... thanks sandy, & sorry.

no, i removed all the ubuntu packages b/c i'd read there was sometimes
an issue with addins when /usr/lib/tomboy was present on the system.  i
may try & reinstall just to see whether there really is an issue.
