The reason I didn't do this in the first place was that I couldn't
figure out (in those other applications) how to access the clear
button with the keyboard using the tab key. If someone would like to
submit a patch for modifying it (put it in a new bug in bugzilla since
we're in feature freeze right now), I'd be glad to include it ... if
the clear button is keyboard accessible.

Right now, you can create a new note through the menu (File->New) or
using Control+N. I think adding a new note button would clutter up
the window, but that's just my opinion. It's probably faster to hit
Control+N.
