> But since I sometimes work on an old laptop, which displays a primitive 1024x768 resolution, I find myself sometimes wishing to know a little bit of programming, so I could add to your little note taker a sliding transparency control, making it easier to take notes from a browser window that is under it, for instance.
Perhaps you could try using Compiz Fusion, which lets you adjust the
transparency of any window, not just Tomboy notes. It is not
particularly intensive on your graphics card, nor your processor (though
it takes a bit of RAM), and if you use an nVidia or Intel graphics card,
you should have no trouble setting it up. If you're running Ubuntu 7.10
up, it's already installed (but not activated). Simply go to the System
> Preferences > Appearences > Visual Effects menu item, and check
Enabled. Hence forth, <Alt> + MouseScroll changes the transparency of
the window. I hope this helps.
