I don't fully understand what is the purpose of the preview?
As notes open in a snappy way, and then are fully editable.

As preview, it may be interesting to explore the use of thumbnailed notes,
10 or 20 times smaller, to ~50px large. It would gives a visual signature to
each note which is easily recognizable.

I think you should not restrict the lenght of the note list.

(IMHO, the next step would be to write down a few use cases.)
