[tomboy-list] Installation and latest version questions

Greetings. I'm using the xfce desktop on Linux Mint 10. The latest
version of Tomboy from the repositories is 1.4. When I click on the
Tomboy icon in the system tray, it shows icons but no note names.
Everything else works well. I decided to add the stable repositories to
my sources to see if I could get a newer version, but all I could get
was 1.4. So I found https://live.gnome.org/Tomboy/Developers and
followed the directions, and that's where I encountered problems.

All went well until I got to the "make" command. When I issue the make
command it returns: "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile
found. Stop." I removed tomboy from the system (sudo apt-get remove
tomboy). So my questions are: 1) what am I missing regarding installing
from git? or 2) What have I done to my system; can I undo what I've done
and reinstall 1.4?
